Sydney Sweeney Rejects Cute, Girl Power-Focused Clichés in ‘SNL’ Promos

Sydney Sweeney wasn’t up for a meet cute.

In a promo for his hosting spot on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, the “Anyone but you“The star runs into “SNL” cast member Michael Longfellow in the 8H studio and his script and book fly.

He picks up his book, “Kafka on the Shore” by Haruki Murakami, and thinks it’s one of his favorites. Romantic music plays as Longfellow tries to find the courage to ask Sweeney out in an internal monologue that the viewer hears.

But forget the relationship dreams as we move on to Sweeney, who has walked away from the conversation. The romantic music swells as Longfellow says, “She said no.” It did not work. Thanks anyway.”

There’s a little more love in a promo featuring Sweeney, actress Heidi Gardner and singer Kasey Musgraves, who is the show’s musical guest this week.

“I love this group of three strong women,” Gardner says. “I bet a lot of women will tune in this week.”

“Oddly enough, a lot of my fans are men,” Sweeney says, to which Musgraves replies, “Hmmm, I wonder why.”

Sweeney is best known for her roles in “Euphoria” and “The White Lotus.”
