Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Finds Screenwriter to Write Next DC Film; James Gunn comments on the script
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow finds a new writer in Ana Nogueira, who has been hired to write the next DC film.
THR reports that DC has tapped a writer for the next Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow movie. Ana Nogueira made a deal to write the film, and this is actually the second time she’s been hired to write a Supergirl movie. Update: James Gunn took Instagram to welcome Ana Nogueira to the DC family. “Public Welcome Ana Nogueira to the DC Studios Family,” Gunn wrote.Ana is an extraordinary writer whose screenplay adaptation of Woman of Tomorrow exceeds everything I hoped for. We’re excited to move forward with this unique take on Supergirl in this beautiful, multi-starrer tale.“
Ana Nogueira was hired to write a Supergirl film in 2022 which would have been a spin off of The flash. The project would have starred Sasha Calle in the lead role, reprising the character she played as. The flash. Once James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC Studios, that project was obviously shelved, but they liked what Nogueira had done enough to bring her back for the new film.
Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow is expected to be based on the comic book miniseries of the same name written by Tom King. “Kara Zor-El has had epic adventures over the years, but now she finds her life without meaning or purpose. Here she is, a young woman who saw her planet destroyed and who was sent to Earth to protect a little cousin who ultimately no longer needed her. Why all this? Wherever she goes, people only see her through the prism of Superman fame,» reads the comic’s official synopsis. “Just when Supergirl thinks she’s had enough, everything changes. An alien is looking for her for a vicious mission. His world has been destroyed and the villains responsible are still out there. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she will do it herself, no matter the cost. Now, a Kryptonian, a dog, and an angry and heartbroken child launch into space on a journey that will shake them to the core.“
“Superman is a guy sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story she is a character raised on a piece of Krypton,» Gunn explained when the project was first announced. “She saw everyone around her perish in a terrible way, so she’s a much more jaded character.“
Nogueira is a playwright and actress best known for her roles in The Vampire Diaries, The blacklist, The Michael J. Fox Show, Hightownand more. Supergirl: the woman of tomorrow will be part of the first chapter of the DCUwhich also includes Superman: The Legacy, The Authority, The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thingand more.
