Qatar Fund focuses on power and housing sector in Pakistan | The Express Tribune



Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) Managing Director Khalifa bin Jassem Al-Kuwari on Saturday expressed interest in increasing the fund’s footprint in the power generation and housing sectors in Pakistan. The two countries will further strengthen their bilateral cooperation by initiating discussions at the technical level, according to a press release issued by the Economic Affairs Division.

A QFFD delegation, led by Al-Kuwari, is on a two-day visit to Pakistan on March 23-24, 2024, the statement added. The delegation, accompanied by the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Pakistan, Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater, visited the Minister of Economic Affairs, Ahad Khan Cheema.

On the occasion, the Minister of Economy underlined the priority of his government to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the development of megaprojects in the water sector. He welcomed the QFFD CEO and appreciated the role that the State of Qatar and QFFD play in the country’s development and the long-standing relations between the two countries. The minister congratulated Al-Kuwari on receiving the civilian award bestowed upon him by the President of Pakistan in recognition of his services to Pakistan.

Cheema expressed gratitude to the State of Qatar for galvanizing international support for victims of the 2022 floods by pledging $25.00 million. He also appreciated the role and support of QFFD to Pakistan in a very difficult time and assured to further strengthen relations with QFFD in future.

Al-Kuwari congratulated the Minister of Economic Affairs on the occasion of Pakistan Day and thanked the Government of Pakistan for awarding the civilian award. Al-Kuwari said the QFFD remains committed to supporting Pakistan on its path to recovery and prosperity through climate-resilient infrastructure.
