PSG held to a goalless draw in Monaco

MONACO: Ligue 1 leaders Paris St Germain and AS Monaco played out a 0-0 draw at the Stade Louis II on Friday as Luis Enrique’s side extended their unbeaten run in the league to 19 matches.

PSG moves to 55 points, 12 ahead of second-placed Brest, which hosts Le Havre on Sunday. Monaco, still without a home victory this year, remains third with 42 points.

Despite the visitors’ dominant possession, Monaco came closest to opening the scoring in the first half, with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma keeping the hosts at bay.

PSG looked more dangerous in the second half, despite replacing striker Kylian Mbappe at half-time, but Bradley Barcola and Vitinha failed to get past goalkeeper Radoslaw Majecki.

“We had chances but we played better in the second half, we played the ball better than in the first but the draw is quite logical,” coach Luis Enrique told Prime Video.

“Sooner or later we will have to get used to playing without Kylian. I have to make the best decisions for the team,” the Spaniard said when asked about the departure of Mbappé, who is expected to leave the club in the end of the season.

PSG next play Real Sociedad in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, where they hold a 2-0 lead.

“I don’t have any personal feelings, I played a good match. It’s not easy here and we wanted to win, but Monaco is a great team,” Donnarumma said. “Despite everything, we had a good game. The team had a good attitude and now we are ready for Real Sociedad.”
