President Biden cheekily slams Trump’s latest golf claim

[ad_1]

US presidential candidate Donald Trump took to his own Truth Social site to boast about his latest golfing achievements and there was a predictable reaction.

Trump, 77, is known for regularly touting his exploits in the sport, almost always performing on one of the courses he owns and usually with little evidence to back them up.

On Sunday (Monday AEDT), Trump said he had won both the club championship and the senior club championship at his Trump International Golf Club in Florida.

In a post containing a large amount of all-caps writing, Trump looked forward to the awards night that evening and later thanked the strangers.

“The qualifiers and match play were incredible,” he wrote in part. “A large and distinguished group will be there this evening. Very exciting, thank you!!!”

Among those who commented on the boast was current US president and Trump’s rival in this year’s election, Joe Biden, 81, who made a simple comment accompanying a screenshot of Trump’s message.

“Congratulations, Donald,” Biden wrote to his 38 million followers on X. “Quite an accomplishment.” »

At last count, Biden’s post had nearly seven million views, 100,000 likes, 17,000 retweets and 10,000 comments, some of which are below.

“It’s also awards night at my house!” I am honored with the title of BEST CAT MOM in the categories of scooping, feeding and giving scritches! It is truly an honor to be recognized.

“I was presented with the golf trophy on my golf course today! »wrote another. “They even let me ride the little carts!”

“Mr. President has jokes and he is not afraid to use them,” was another comment.

“I don’t think you have the right to assassinate your political opponent like this,” added another.

It continues a common theme for Trump when it comes to golf and sporting prowess.

In January, Trump claimed to have won the senior championship in another of his courses, although he did not compete under the same circumstances as everyone else in the competition.

Scheduled to compete Saturday and Sunday, Trump was absent on the first day and used a score from a previous round earlier in the week to give him a five-shot lead heading into the second day.

In September last year, he also claimed he weighed 215 pounds (97 kg) and was 6 feet 3 inches (190 cm) tall.

These dimensions should place Trump’s physical appearance alongside Muhammad Ali in his boxing prime and NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Lamar Jackson.

These numbers emerged in his statements when Trump was incarcerated in the Fulton County, Georgia, jail for conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

A few days later, he made further claims about his golfing abilities.

There is very little footage of the former president at any of his private lessons, with the exception of an infamous video that surfaced in July last year showing Trump performing in Los Angeles.

He is seen launching a chip attempt on the green about 30 yards away.

Trump previously posted on Truth Social that he also won the senior club championship at his own Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

It wasn’t just the claim of his victory that raised eyebrows, it was also his supposed score.

Trump said he shot a round of 67 on the course, which has a par score of 72.

“I’m happy to announce, for those who care, that I just won the Senior Club Championship (must be over 50!) at Bedminster (Trump National Golf Club), shooting a round of 67,” Trump said.

“Now some people will think that sounds weak, but there is no handkerchief/lanky. Lots of people are watching and I’m surrounded by Secret Service agents.

“There’s only so much you can do even if you wanted to, and I can’t. For some reason I’m just a good golfer/athlete – I’ve won many club championships and it’s always a great honor! »

A five-under score on most championship-level golf courses, which is what Trump National is, would appeal to seasoned professionals.

Trump then remarkably shared the contact information of Bedminster’s head golf professional, Mickey Gallagher.

After all of this from the presumptive 2024 Republican presidential nominee, it was no surprise to see the quick reaction from many people on social media.

The score along with claims that he is a “good golfer/athlete” piqued the interest of most, not to mention the fact that these “wins” only happen on courses Trump owns.

“Has Trump ever won a golf tournament on a course he doesn’t own? » » asked user X Rschooley.

Answers included “has he ever won a round of golf without cheating” and has he ever won “where there were other golfers?”
