THE Washington Nationals received some good news Sunday as outfield prospect Daylen Lile was released from the hospital following a scary incident against the Boston Red Sox during a spring training game.

Red Sox Prospect Tyler Miller launched his first home run of the spring Saturday in the seventh inning, but there were concerns when Lile, attempting a miraculous home run, knocked over the bullpen wall and landed hard .

It was a reminder of Torii Hunter’s infamous flip at Fenway Park during David Ortiz’s game-tying grand slam in Game 2 of the 2013 ALCS. JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida, which is the home of the Red Sox in spring, has the same low outfield wall in right field that mimics Fenway.

Although the broadcast did not show how Lile fell into the bullpen, the relievers and staff in attendance immediately flagged down the coaches to come check on him. They continued to wave until people arrived to assess what had happened.

Lile was eventually taken out of the stadium on a stretcher and there were fears something bad might happen.

Fortunately, after spending time in the hospital for evaluation, Lile was diagnosed with a lower back contusion and it appears the Nats avoided something worse.

“I mean, he’s hurting,” Nationals manager Davey Martinez said Sunday, according to ESPN. “But he will be fine, which is great news. We were lucky.”

Martinez said after Saturday’s game that a scan of Lile’s back would be performed and that he had movement in his arms and legs.

Lile also greeted the crowd, showing that he was optimistic despite his situation.

The 21-year-old was a second-round pick of the Nats in the 2021 MLB Draft. He played in 19 games in his rookie year before missing the entire 2022 season after needing Tommy John surgery .

Lile split his 2023 season into Low-A and High-A ball, hitting .291 with an .891 OPS over 66 Low-A games.
