Mumbai cricketers to get 100% salary hike from 2024-25 season

Mumbai (Maharashtra) (India), March 24 (ANI): The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) on Sunday agreed to give a 100 per cent salary hike to its senior male cricketers from the 2024-25 season, according to ESPNCricinfo.

The decision was approved at the recent MCA supreme council meeting. This will effectively double a player’s earnings throughout the season, according to ESPNCricinfo.

Currently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) pays its cricketers at the senior men’s level on three levels. Players earn Rs 60,000 per day after playing more than 40 first-class matches.

Meanwhile, cricketers who have played between 21 and 40 matches earn Rs 50,000 per day. Players who have participated in less than 20 first-class matches earn Rs 40,000 per day.

Speaking about the new decision, MCA President Amol Kale said that the player should earn more. He added that “especially” those who play Ranji Trophy should earn more.

“We felt that players should earn more, especially those who play Ranji Trophy cricket. For us, red ball cricket is what matters the most as Ranji Trophy holds a special place for everyone at Mumbai,” the MCA president was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

Earlier, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar said that there would be many more players in the Ranji Trophy now if they got a better salary.

“If the Ranji Trophy fees can be doubled or tripled, there will certainly be a lot more people playing Ranji Trophy, (and) a lot fewer withdrawals. They will all want to play with the tile system – (if) everyone 10 “In first-class matches, you get a lot more – so I would request the BCCI to look at that aspect as well,” Gavaskar said.

Recently, Mumbai won their 42nd Ranji Trophy after beating Vidarbha in the final. (ANI)
