Mourners await Navalny’s funeral in Moscow as release of body delayed

A representative of a Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny said his body was not returned to his relatives as planned on March 1, while mourners awaited his funeral in Moscow.

Images broadcast by SOTA shows the queue outside the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God, where Navalny’s spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said the funeral would take place.

Burial will take place at the nearby Borisov cemetery, Yarmysh added.

However, Navalny’s team said Friday morning that his body had not been handed over to his relatives as planned at 10 a.m.

The funeral was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. local time. Credit: SOTA via Storyful
