Minimal health care, no room to move: Imprisoned RFE/RL journalist describes Russian prison

[ad_1]

A court in the Russian city of Kazan decided to extend the pre-trial detention of RFE/RL journalist Alsou Kurmasheva until June 5 and rejected her request for house arrest. She is accused of failing to register as a foreign agent and spreading false information about the Russian military, charges widely seen as retaliation for her journalistic work. Appearing in court on April 1, Kurmasheva, a dual U.S. and Russian citizen, described poor prison conditions and said her health deteriorated because she was unable to access treatment.
