Mass shooting in Indianapolis leaves seven children, ages 12 to 17, with gunshot wounds

Seven children were injured in a mass shooting outside a shopping mall in the United States, police said.

The victims, all between the ages of 12 and 17, were injured Saturday outside the Circle Center mall in Indianapolis around 11:30 p.m.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Deputy Chief Tanya Terry said officers patrolling the area heard gunshots and found “a large group of juveniles” at the scene, six of whom had gunshot wounds .

She told reporters Sunday morning that the victims were transported to local hospitals, where one was initially classified as seriously injured but was later reported to be in stable condition, while the other five were listed as stable.

A seventh minor with gunshot wounds arrived separately at the hospital and was in stable condition, according to Ms. Terry.

She said: “Once again we are faced with a situation where young people are resolving conflicts with guns, and this must stop.

“Conflict should not result in someone pulling out a gun and trying to resolve it. The consequences are eternal.”

No arrests have been made and police have not yet identified any suspects, she added.

Police noticed a pattern of young people leaving the mall after it closed at 7 p.m. and staying in the nearby town center for hours, Ms Terry said.

In comments reported by Sky News’ US partner network NBC News, she said that if parents don’t know where their 12-year-old child is at 11.30pm before Easter, it should “be a priority”.

This is the third shooting in three weekends in Indianapolis, NBC said, citing its affiliate WTHR.
