Lizzo Clarifies What She Meant By ‘I Quit’ Comments

US pop star Lizzo has assured her fans she will not leave the music industry – following an earlier statement in which she said she was tired of being ridiculed online.

The About Damn Time singer made headlines after ending a Instagram post last week with “I didn’t sign up for this shit. I quit” – after saying she was “dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.”

But in a new video on Tuesday, the 35-year-old clarified that she meant she was “stopping paying attention to negative energy” and no longer singing or writing songs.

“What I’m not going to give up is the joy of my life, the joy of making music, the joy of connecting people,” she said in a video on social media.

She continued: “If I can just give one person the inspiration or the motivation to stand up for themselves and say stop letting negative people win, negative comments win, then I’ve done even more than that that I could have hoped for.

“That being said, I’m going to continue to move forward, I’m going to continue to be myself.”

The Grammy Award winner also thanked her fans for the love she received, adding that it “means more than you know.”

Lizzoreal name Melissa Viviane Jefferson, was continued last August by ex-dancers Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, who accused him of sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.

At the time, she described the allegations as “extremely difficult and extremely disappointing” – adding that the claims were “as unbelievable as they sound”.

In her March 30 post, Lizzo said she was “constantly faced with lies about me for her influence and opinions…being the butt of the joke every time because of my appearance.”

A day before the statement, a lawyer, who represents the three former dancers who filed a lawsuit against the singer, said it was “shameful” that she headlined a Radio City fundraiser for the president Joe Biden “amid such egregious allegations.”
