Jennifer Lopez, 53, is known for being extremely family-oriented and speaks publicly about her relationship with both of her parents. The singer was born on July 24, 1969, Guadalupe Rodriguez And David Lopez. Guadalupe and David raised “Jenny From The Block” in New York, with a Puerto Rican upbringing.

In his new documentary, The greatest love story ever told, Jennifer reflected on her childhood in the Bronx and admitted that she felt unloved because she felt her mother was “narcissistic” and her father was absent. “When I was little, I was always looking for someone to make me feel loved,” she said. “I was a middle child, not the baby, not the firstborn… you just kind of get lost in between all that,” she added, referring to her sisters. “I felt very ignored by my father because he always worked nights and slept all day and I didn’t feel like I had enough of a connection with him,” she continued. “My mother was a narcissist, the center of attention, of the party animal’s life.”

Guadalupe and JLo are very close – so close that the singer often posts about her adorable mom on social media. The matriarch of JLo’s family was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and is also the mother of JLo’s sisters Leslie and Lynda. Guadalupe had a modest upbringing and worked hard to ensure her children had a good life. In her youth, she made a living selling Tupperware and working in a school, The American sun reported.

JLo’s mother found love when she met David, and from that point on, she became a full-time housewife for their family. David and Guadalupe raised their three daughters in a small apartment in the Castle Hill neighborhood in the south-central section of the Bronx. She went on to explain how she now sees her own children differentiate themselves from her in the same way she did as a child. “The mom, you’re the one who bears a little of the brunt of it,” she said on View. “You’re like, ‘Oh, that’s what she was talking about!’ » This is the moment when your children don’t want to talk to you, and they somehow individuate from you, and all this is necessary, and intellectually, I understand it, but my heart!

In his 2024 documentary, The greatest love story ever told, Jennifer described the difficult times at her mother’s house and how she handled them. “My mother is a super complicated woman and she carries a lot of baggage, she wanted us to be independent and never have to depend on a man,” she explained in the report. “She did what she had to do to survive, and that made her strong, but it also made her tough. She also confirmed that she and her mother took a “break” from each other when she decided to go against her mother’s wishes and not go to college . “I wanted to try dancing full time…I started sleeping on the couch in the dance studio. She then confirmed that despite all the difficulties, she was now on good terms with both her parents.

Jennifer’s father, David, has been by his daughter’s side in many of her accomplishments. And although David is much more private and out of the spotlight than his wife, Jennifer remains very public about her admiration for her dad. In 2016, Jennifer shared a sweet birthday Instagram post of David. She captioned the post office“Happy birthday to this incredible man who raised me to be the person I am today and showed me that unconditional love really does exist!!!”

In his younger years, David worked for the Guardian Insurance Company before eventually becoming a computer technician within the company. David has always supported his daughter’s singing career. He even supported her during her Hollywood Walk of Fame star ceremony in 2013, alongside her family.

In 2007, Jennifer spoke to CBS about his father, particularly his religion of Scientology. “My father has been a Scientologist for 20 years. He’s the best man I’ve ever known in my life and so it’s weird to me that people want to describe him in a negative way,” she said.
