Daraphirom Palace Museum Receives Silver Award for Historical and Cultural Attraction in Thailand Tourism Awards 2023
Chulalongkorn University’s Daraphirom Palace Museum received the silver award in the historical and cultural attraction category from the Tourism Authority of Thailand at the Thailand Tourism Awards 2023. The awards ceremony took place on Wednesday September 27, 2023.
Dara Phirom Palace was the residence of Her Highness Princess Dara Rasmi, royal consort of His Majesty King Chulalongkorn. The palace is a two-story building. The ground floor is an open space, with reinforced concrete structures to support the upper floor and a wooden roof. The style was that of a Western house, very popular at the time. There is an area called “Suan Chao Sabai” in front of which is the monument of Her Highness Princess Dara Rasmi. Every year, Chulalongkorn University, along with other organizations, is holding a ceremony on “Her Highness Princess Dara Rasmi Day” to commemorate her countless contributions to the land of Lanna.
Later in 1999, Chulalongkorn University renovated Daraphirom Palace and opened it as a museum, displaying the history, artifacts related to Princess Dara Rasmi and the arts and culture of Lanna with the aim of preserve the original architecture and culture. Daraphirom Palace Museum received the Outstanding Conservation Building Award from the Siamese Architects Association under the royal patronage in 2000.
Daraphirom Palace, located in Mae Rim, Chiang Mai, is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (including public holidays). The museum closes Monday and Tuesday.
