Billionaire businessman Mark Cuban, who voted for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2024 Republican primary and now supports President Joe Biden, will appear at his second fundraiser in Dallas tonight , in Texas, according to a source close to the matter.

Biden’s appearance Wednesday night with Cuban, the former majority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, is part of a broader effort by the president to court Nikki Haley’s donors and supporters after she exits the race.

Cuban is one of the main sharks on the ABC reality television series Shark Tank. He will leave the series in 2025.

The same source told ABC News that the Biden campaign has also held Zoom calls with former Haley donors since she suspended her campaign on March 6.

In an interview with Bloomberg earlier this month, Cuban said he would vote for Biden over Trump.

Biden’s campaign said it was confident in its ability to persuade Haley supporters who oppose a second Trump term to cross party lines and support the president in the fall.

“Donald Trump has made it clear he doesn’t want Nikki Haley’s supporters. I want to be clear: There is a place for them in my campaign,” Biden said in a statement minutes after Haley suspended her presidential campaign.

The Biden-Harris campaign pointed out that Haley was still receiving a significant share of the vote in the primary election, even after dropping out of the race, saying Trump would have a hard time uniting Republicans in November.

“Nikki Haley is describing to the world exactly where and with whom Donald Trump is weak, and our campaign is paying attention to that and will engage voters in a very intentional way, to create that contrast and invite them in,” a campaign aide said during a press conference. press call Monday.

Aides also point to polling output to show that there are Republican primary voters who say they would support Biden in the general. In Ohio, for example, as an ABC News exit poll reported Tuesday, eight in ten Haley supporters said they would not vote for Trump in the general election, and nearly half said they would support Biden — a figure that Biden’s campaign has lambasted. journalists.

At least a half-dozen former Haley bundlers chose to help Biden’s campaign rather than Trump’s, according to a CNBC report distributed to reporters Tuesday by Biden’s team. Harry Sloan, a veteran media executive and former Haley donor, was one of those donors recruited to help re-elect Biden and raise money for his campaign.

Cuban visited the White House earlier this month for a roundtable discussion on reducing prescription drug costs – something Cuban is passionate about – he founded Cost Plus Drug Company, which provides low-cost drugs to consumers. Biden has touted his own efforts to combat the high cost of prescription drugs, including capping the cost of insulin at $35 for seniors.
