Boyfriend of Missing Florida Teen’s Mother Arrested After Police Discover His Inappropriate Content Regarding Children

Madeleine Sotoa 13-year-old from Florida, disappeared since Monday (February 26). Now her mother’s boyfriend, Stéphane Sternswould be one of the main suspects in his disappearance, according to several reports.

Mom’s Boyfriend Arrested for Possession of ‘Disturbing’ Children’s Content

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office arrested Sterns on Wednesday after discovering inappropriate children’s content on his phone. They accused Sterns of sexual assault and possession of child pornography, by NBC News.

Authorities discovered inappropriate material during an investigation into the disappearance of Madeline Soto. Detectives working the case say Stephan had “disturbing images” and videos “of a criminal and sexual nature” on his phone.

It’s unclear whether the content found on Stern’s phone features his girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter. However, medical examiners determined that the crimes reported on his phone were committed in their family home in Kissimmee, Florida. Stephan Sterns allegedly tried to delete the content, but the police managed to recover it.

Sterns’ arrest is not directly related to Madeline’s disappearance. However, in view of this development, the police have now named him as the main suspect while she remains missing.

What police know about Madeline Soto’s disappearance

Stephan Sterns was reportedly the last person to see Madeline Soto around 8:30 a.m. Monday. The 37-year-old man dropped Madeline Soto off a few blocks from her school, Hunters Middle School in Orlando, Florida, Sheriff John Mina revealed.

But when her mother went to pick her up after school, she was told that her daughter would not be there on Monday. That night, police began searching for the teenager. The child with blond hair and blue eyes was last wearing a green sweatshirt, black shorts and white Crocs.

So why wasn’t she dropped off at school? Mina said the child was likely “embarrassed” by his stepfather’s vehicle.

Officials with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) interviewed Stephan Sterns Wednesday evening. But Sterns chose to invoke his right to counsel before police arrested him.

“Stephan Sterns had the opportunity tonight to tell detectives the truth and help them obtain information about Maddie’s disappearance,” said OCSO Sheriff Mina. “Her loved ones deserve answers and OCSO and the Kissimmee Police Department will not stop until we find Maddie.”

Police are also exploring another reason for Maddie’s disappearance

The police also investigated another possible alternative: that Madeline would run away. A search of her cellphone, which was recovered from the family home on Monday, showed she had previously expressed a desire to “live in the woods” after she turned 13. Her 13th birthday was February 22, just days before she disappeared.

Search efforts, particularly in certain woods near his school, were unsuccessful.

It is unclear whether Madeline’s mother has been in contact with Stephan Sterns since his arrest.
