Bitcoin Developer Mailing List Migrates to Google Groups

Today, Bitcoin Developers Mailing List moderators Ruben Somsen, Bryan Bishop, and Warren Togami announced the mailing list’s migration to Google Groups.

“The Bitcoin-dev mailing list migrated from where it was initially hosted, to Linux Foundation, to OSUOSL, and it is now migrating to Google Groups,” said Bitcoin developer Bryan Bishop.

Subscribers to the existing mailing list are advised to act quickly, as emails sent to the old list will no longer be accepted starting February 2024. The new mailing list location will be accessible here.

For those who missed the invitation or prefer to subscribe manually, alternative options are offered, including subscribing by email or registering on the online interface using a Google account. “If you missed the invitation and would like to subscribe manually, you have two options,” the announcement states. “You can send an email to and then send a reply to the automated email you receive (check your spam folder). You can also subscribe through the online interface at the address, using a Google account (not the same as Gmail – you can create a Google account with any email address you want). “

The announcement also highlighted the importance of remaining registered to receive all messages, to facilitate active participation and maintain continuity of conversations to ensure responses flow correctly.

Additionally, the migration ensures the preservation and accessibility of archived mailing list content (no Google account required) with backups available externally, where the old mailing list can be viewed. It’s important to note that the moderators “are not relying on Google for anything critical here and are simply using them as a conduit for information that is already supposed to be public.”

The mailing list moderators also want to remind participants to ensure messages are relevant to everyone in order to maintain a good signal-to-noise ratio. A list of mailing list rules, which remain unchanged, can be found here. Moderators can be contacted at
