AT&T says data set leak affects approximately 73 million current and former account holders


:Telecommunications company AT&T said Saturday it was investigating a set of data published on the “dark web” about two weeks ago, and said its preliminary analysis shows it affected about 7.6 million users. current account holders and 65.4 million former account holders.

The company said the dataset appears to be from 2019 or earlier. AT&T said it had no evidence of unauthorized access to its systems resulting from the incident.

The company said it did not yet know whether the data came from AT&T or one of its providers.

AT&T said the incident did not materially impact its operations and that the source of the data was still being evaluated.

AT&T is in contact with everyone affected and has reset the passcodes of 7.6 million current customers. It also said it would offer credit monitoring where appropriate.

The wireless carrier’s 5G network covers about 290 million people in the United States.

In February, AT&T experienced an outage that interrupted calls and texts for thousands of U.S. users and triggered federal investigations.
