Anne Hathaway: I had a miscarriage while playing a pregnant woman

When Anne Hathaway was playing a pregnant woman on Broadway, she suffered an actual miscarriage.

For the first time, she is speaking out about this heartbreaking and all-too-common experience.

Anne Hathaway is a talented actress, a celebrity style iconand also a mother of two children. Her sons are 8 and 4 years old.

She also knows the pain of losing a pregnancy. She hopes speaking out will help others realize they are not alone.

In 2015, Anne Hathaway played a pregnant woman in “Grounded”

Based is just one of many plays in which Anne Hathaway has appeared. In 2015, she played a pregnant woman at the Public Theater in New York.

In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Anne Hathaway opened up about her experience of pregnancy and a tragic miscarriage before becoming a mother. His role on stage turned into a cruel mockery.

“The first time, it didn’t work for me,” she admitted. “I was doing a play and had to give birth on stage every night.”

The year 2015 followed a period of vitriol (and apparently for no reason, because he’s a great person) hate campaign against her by online trolls. Naturally, Anne Hathaway didn’t choose to make her miscarriage public, but shared it with a few friends.

“It was too hard to keep it to myself when I was on stage pretending everything was okay,” she recalls. “Otherwise I had to keep things real.”

Hathaway explained: “So when it went well for me, after being on the other side – where you have to have grace to be happy for someone – I wanted to let my sisters know: ‘You don’t have to do it.’ always be gracious. I see you and I have been you.’

Obviously, Anne Hathaway is not alone in her pain

“It’s really hard to want something so much and wonder if you’re doing something wrong,” she said.

During the interview, Hathaway also remarked on how surprised she felt at that moment. She had no idea how many friends had miscarried.

Watching TV, you might think that miscarriages are rare – caused by dramatic falls in soap operas or extreme emotional distress in dramas. In reality, 20% of reported pregnancies result in miscarriages – and the true figure is higher, because many of these pregnancies occur before the pregnant person knows they are pregnant.

“I asked myself: where is this information? Why do we feel so unnecessarily isolated? Anne Hathaway remembers wondering.

“This is where we suffer the damage,” she stressed. “So I decided to talk about it.”

Sharing our own lived experiences can sometimes be the best way to help others deal with what they may view as personal shame. Good for her.
