2024 budget should include funding for disability benefits, ask Liberal MPs – National |


Dozens of Liberal MPs are calling on the finance minister to set aside funds for the Canada Disability Benefit in next month’s federal budget.

In a letter shared on social media, MP Ryan Turnbull says the benefit, designed to help disabled people escape poverty, is a “legacy social policy” from the government.

The Liberals first introduced legislation creating this benefit almost two years ago.

The Canada Disability Benefit Act came into force last summer and the government has been consulting on it for months.

Liberal MPs say the measure is supported by all parties as well as a majority of Canadians, who want to see funds in the budget for its implementation.

Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is expected to present the budget on April 16.
